New Year Greetings!😊
Welcome back to my Blog Page. 🙏
If you find yourself basking in the joy of retirement, that's truly wonderful! However, suppose you're one of those individuals grappling with the disparity between retirement expectations and reality. I want you to know you're not alone.
I feel privileged to have the opportunity to share simple coaching tips to help retirees and those transitioning into retirement discover, design, build, and live the dream retirement lives they would love.
And today, we're diving into how you can create the dream life you love by "Honouring Your Discontent in Retirement."
Retirement isn't the end; it's a chance to refire, reinvent, and embrace new possibilities to become more of who you can be. Perhaps retirement hasn't turned out to be the dream life you had imagined it would be. I understand how you feel, as I've walked that path and experienced those same emotions. Yet, I firmly believe we possess the power to shape and live the retirement life we had envisioned.
I am very happy and grateful to be living one of my retirement dreams by authoring my first self-help book, "Your Thoughts Matter – Change Your Thoughts and Change Your Destiny." It wasn't easy, but the time and effort spent to live a more fulfilling and significant life were worth it. If I can live my dream in retirement, so can you!
My passion and burning desire are to share, and Impact lives positively with the principles and practices I have studied, learned, and applied fruitfully from many great personal development gurus, especially from my mentor, Mary Morrissey, who taught me the Art and Science of Dream Building.
What I'm sharing today may or may not be new to you. I hope you have an open mind and a willing heart to embrace what I share in this and all my blogs/videos.
Now, let's talk about the key to unlocking your dream retirement. That is, "Honor your discontent." Discontent is a sign that there's more to explore and achieve. It's like a compass guiding you toward a more meaningful and fulfilling life you love.
So, what would you love in retirement?
In our hearts, we all have dreams for our retirement life in four key domains. They are (i) Health and Well-being, (ii) Love and relationships, (iii) Vacation - your work and talent, and (iv) Time and money freedom to be, do, have, and give.
Suppose you're feeling stressed, longing for a deeper connection, lost in your vocation, or discontented with your time and money freedom. I sincerely encourage you to honor these feelings of dissatisfaction as they are nudges for you to discover what you love and make this phase of your life the best.
Let's unpack the four domains:
(i) In the health domain, listen to your body. If stress is a companion, then what you love may be to have peace of mind. Consider joining a meditation class or engaging in activities you love for improved mental well-being.
(ii) You may be unhappy in relationships because you would love a deeper family connection and bonding. Take action steps to build stronger bonds with your loved ones.
(iii) In your vocation domain, you may feel uncertain about your purpose outside work after retirement. Honor your discontent to rediscover your passion and desire to refire and reinvent yourself to age actively and significantly. You may love to publish a book, be a coach and mentor, or become your own boss. The key is to embrace change and rediscover your purpose.
(iv) And if you feel discontented with your time and money freedom to be, do, have, and give, then perhaps what you love may be to enjoy your hobby, use them to start a new hobby like gardening, playing the guitar, attending short courses for personal development, and/or contributing positively to society, and live life with significance.
Let those inner feelings of what you love create a spark that ignites your purpose, a burning desire to commit and manifest your dream life and live life to the fullest.
Acknowledging and honoring your discontent in these four areas allows you to take meaningful steps toward a more fulfilling and significant retirement. Don't let others drown out your inner voice to become a better version of yourself.
Feeling restless or dissatisfied means more is waiting for you. Your potential is limitless, and you're meant for greatness.
Over to you now:
I invite you to ask yourself:
- Which domain of my retirement life am I feeling most dissatisfied with now
- What would I love, and what is my BIG why?
Then:
(i) Create a vision of the dream retirement life you would love in that domain by harnessing your imagination's power to visualize your desired life with clarity and specificity.
(ii) Take one action step today to embark on your dream-building journey in retirement. Celebrate each baby step in your dream-building process.
(iii) Stretch yourself beyond your comfort zone to move from where you are to where you want to be and embrace failures as feedback to improve, adapt, and change in your transformation.
(iv) Commit to that vision and be willing to manifest that life you envisioned by living up to your commitment.
(v) Never give up. Have faith and believe you can become a better version of yourself in retirement.
Remember, you're meant to live a life you love at every age and every stage.
Eleanor Roosevelt said, "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." While living your dream in retirement is truly magnificent, the most significant reward lies in the journey of self-discovery and personal growth.
So, here's to discovering and living your dreams in this exciting phase of your life.🙌
